Wilcox to Host Bears Opening Day Watch Party and Discussion on Efforts to Keep Bears in Illinois

With the future of the Chicago Bears in Illinois still uncertain, State Senator Craig Wilcox (R-McHenry) is inviting District 32 residents and Bears fans to join him and Americans for Prosperity-Illinois on Sunday, September 13, for an opening day watch party and community discussion about efforts to keep Illinois’ beloved NFL franchise in Illinois.

The event will begin at 10:30 a.m. at the McHenry VFW Hall with a discussion focused on the proposals considered during the spring legislative session to address the Bears’ potential move to Hammond, Indiana. Wilcox will provide an overview of the proposals, including the potential advantages and drawbacks of each, and discuss what lawmakers should consider as negotiations continue.

“The Chicago Bears are an Illinois institution, and the decision about where they build their next stadium could have significant economic consequences for our state and our communities,” said Wilcox. “We need to make sure Illinois is offering a competitive environment without asking taxpayers to write a blank check.”

The discussion will also give residents an opportunity to ask questions and share their thoughts about what Illinois should do next.

“We need to look carefully at the costs, the long-term economic benefits and the impact on taxpayers before making a commitment,” added Wilcox. “If we are going to keep the Bears in Illinois, we need to get the deal right. I am committed to working toward that goal.”

Following the discussion, attendees are invited to stay for food, beverages and the Bears’ noon kickoff against the Carolina Panthers as Chicago opens the 2026-27 NFL season.

“This is a chance to have a good conversation, enjoy some Bears football and talk about an issue that could have a lasting impact on Illinois,” Wilcox said. “I encourage Bears fans, taxpayers and anyone interested in the future of our state to join us.”
