Senate Week in Review: Christmas Week

McHenry, IL. – No politics or government news in this Christmas edition of my weekly column. We’ve had enough of both for 2019. I just wanted to take this opportunity to wish you all a meaningful holiday season, and hope you are able to spend time with family and friends.

While we may not share the exact same approach to belief and faith, it is our common humanity that links us as a human family. So, despite our differences, we can share in the kindness and caring of the season.

Let’s remember those serving in the military, who are on guard around the world and for whom our Freedom and Liberty to worship as we please would not be possible. This is also a season when expressions of worship and love come easy, but it can be a tough time for people in need.

Here are a few local organizations we can support, and help provide critical assistance for those less fortunate:

Food Banks

  • Crystal Lake Food Pantry, 42 East Street, Crystal Lake; 815-455-0961
  • Fish of McHenry Food Bank, 3703 N. Richmond Road, Johnsburg; 815-344-4717

Shelters

  • McHenry County PADS, 14411 Kishwaukee Valley Road, Woodstock; 815-344-1230
  • Home of The Sparrow, 4209 W. Shamrock Lane, Unit B, McHenry; 815-271-5444
